Christmas gifting ideas from the kitchen and garden
The festive season is almost here!
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been chatting to schools about creative hand-made Christmas gift ideas.
Here is a selection of our favourite Christmas gifting ideas, straight from the kitchen and garden, that your tamariki may like to make for friends and whānau.
Chai Mix: your children will love turning all the beautiful fragrant spices in your pantry into a gorgeous gift! Simply blend together your favourite spices such as ground ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Store in glass jars.
Kawakawa Balm: renowned for its healing properties, native kawakawa makes a beautiful aromatic balm. Collect your kawakawa leaves, find a good recipe using beeswax and almond or coconut oil. Present in small jars. Return the spent leaves to papatūānuku by adding them to your compost pile.
Chutney: did you turn your last crop of tomatoes into chutney? Now is the ideal time to share the love, and create a delicious Christmas gift that’s sure to delight! For a special touch, how about creating a homemade label?
Seedlings in Decorated Pots: let the creativity of your tamariki run wild by having them decorate terracotta pots, before filling them with soil and your favourite seedlings.
Flower Petal Bath Bombs: homemade bath bombs always make a lovely gift. This holiday season try adding some dried rose or flower petals to your usual bath bomb mix, for an extra-special festive touch!
Bird Feeders: have your children glue together old teacups and saucers into fun bird feeders. What better way to create a repurposed sustainable gift that will attract wildlife to your garden?
Furoshiki: this Japanese art-form of wrapping with cloth is the perfect method of gift-wrapping this holiday season! Whether your tamariki paint, tie-dye or marble fabric, they’ll love being able to create their own artistic masterpieces.
We hope some of these Christmas gifting ideas inspire you and your whānau this holiday season! We’d love to see photos of your creations - share them with us via Facebook or Instagram.
