Real-life maths in local orchards with JAZZ™ apples

Did you know that orchardists use a colour swatch to check the colour of their JAZZ™ apples? Or that a bin of picked JAZZ™ apples contains enough fruit to make 366 Garden to Table Apple & Rhubarb crumbles? Garden to Table kids will be learning all this and more with our new resource that follows the journey of a JAZZ™ apple.

The Garden to Table curriculum team has collaborated with Garden to Table partner T&G Global to produce a fantastic new teaching resource which takes learning mathematics out of the classroom and lands it straight into the real world of the apple orchard.

Garden to Table’s curriculum manager Victoria says

“Children find learning that is based in the real world to be more engaging. It helps them understand that the things they learn at school are useful and necessary in real life and in future careers too.”

Covering everything from multiplication to fractions and percentages, the resource is designed to be both fun for kids and also easy for teachers to use in the classroom.

T&G’s Head of Corporate Affairs, Adrienne Sharp, says T&G is all about hands-on learning.

“Every day in our business, we use our knowledge and skills – including mathematics – to grow, sell and export our delicious JAZZ™ apples. We’ve taken some of the real life examples from our orchards to create this resource to inspire the next generation of gardeners!”
