Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

It's Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week!

To celebrate, we're sharing a fun activity that will help your tamariki practice their kupu Māori (words), while exploring the māra (garden), by identifying the colours that occur in nature.

Māori colours are derived from nature. For example, the word karaka comes from orange karaka berries, kōwhai refers to the yellow flowers of the kōwhai tree, kākāriki is derived from the name of the native green parrot.

This activity is a great way for your children to connect with the mara in a new way.

Karawhuia — give it a go, and let us know how you get along via Facebook or Instagram!

These activities are part of a bigger resource that was shared with all Garden to Table schools, to help students practice and celebrate te Reo Māori.
