Taste Explorers

Taste Explorers, a new resource from Garden to Table and our Sponsors My Food Bag, is a hands-on way of helping children to love new foods. By using all of our senses to explore vegetables, we take the pressure off the eating and dial up the exploring.

It is perfect for developing early literacy skills, especially oral language and early writing. Older students can delve deeper into the science behind the senses and how senses interact together to give us a more complex view of the world.

Students are encouraged to use their five senses, one at a time, to try different vegetables and other foods. When the focus is on turning your tongue purple with beetroot or purple carrots, children are more likely to give a new food a try. Have you ever thought about noisy celery and quiet avocado as you eat? Be prepared to see vegetables in a whole new way!
