Introducing the Garden to Table Bake Sale, supported by Westgold

There’s nothing quite like delicious home-baked food - and this year, schools across the motu will be whipping up all sorts of wonderful kai, in an effort to raise funds for their Garden to Table programmes.

The ‘Garden to Table Bake Sale’ will be held for the first time in May 2022, in the hopes of providing schools with a unique fundraising opportunity that not only enriches the student’s learning, but also brings the community together.

Although bake sales have been a long-standing feature in schools, the classic fundraiser will have a Garden to Table twist - with participating schools being challenged to honour the many subtle and varied flavours of fresh, seasonal produce in their baking.

The fundraiser - which we’re hoping will become an annual event, is made possible by our proud partner, Westgold Butter.

Westgold’s purpose is to inspire confidence and creativity in cooking and baking - and we’re looking forward to seeing this reflected in the Bake Sale, with each school receiving 10 blocks of Westgold Butter to help them get on their way.

This year, Kenwood is also supporting the Bake Sale - with participating school’s going in the draw to win a Kenwood MultiPro FPM910 Food Processor.

Thanks Kenwood!

The fundraiser will be a rich learning opportunity for tamariki - with maths, science and art naturally represented in the measuring of ingredients, preparation of a recipe, and presentation of the baking, for example.

Already, schools have been getting behind the fundraiser.

Howick Primary School are planning their sale for 26th May, with beetroot brownies and carrot cake on the menu. Teacher Beccy Long says the Bake Sale will be “deliciously awesome".

At Glen Taylor School in Tāmaki Makaurau, they have told us they will be baking sweet and savoury options with lots of leafy greens and herbs, making the most out of their māra kai bounty.

We can’t wait to see what’s on offer at all of our schools!

Our Trust will be supporting schools every step of the way - providing resources to help plan recipes, price the products, and promote the Sale.

But, schools need your help too!

We’re asking Garden to Table supporters - just like you, to get out and support their local school, by purchasing their delicious baking.

These Garden to Table schools have signed up to hold a Garden to Table Bake Sale in 2022. Please remember to check in with your local school to find out what dates they have chosen to hold their event.
