Nadia’s Dancing for Garden to Table!
NADIA LIM’S STAR SHINES LIGHT ON GARDEN TO TABLE, IN NEW SEASON DANCING WITH THE STARS NZ ON THREE.
Celebrity chef, entrepreneur and mother, Nadia Lim, is slipping on her dancing shoes to take on the upcoming season of Three’s Dancing with the Stars NZ – and she’s dancing for Kiwi charity Garden to Table. Here you can listen to Nadia talking with Jesse Mulligan about Garden to Table.
National food education charity Garden to Table provides primary school students with essential, hands-on skills so they can grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh food. The curriculum-integrated programme provides broad learning opportunities and empowers self-sufficiency, resilience and self-worth amongst primary-school-aged children.
Nadia has chosen to support Garden to Table as her charity as funds raised will enable more students to learn essential food-based life skills. Garden to Table currently operates in 176 primary schools throughout Aotearoa, positively impacting around 23,000 children across years three to six, but there are a further 238,448 children from 1,821 schools who are currently missing out.
Nadia says “The health and wellbeing of our communities is one of my greatest passions and I would love to help arm every child with the skills to access and love fresh nutritious food, no matter their circumstances - I see it as a fundamental right of every child. On top of that, I believe the mental health benefits from getting outside, connecting with nature and getting away from screens are just as important as the nutrition benefits. Teaching kids to love gardening and cooking is absolutely one way that we can give them skills to help look after their mental wellbeing both throughout their childhood and beyond into their adult life.”
Linda Taylor, Executive Officer at Garden to Table Trust says, “Nadia’s ethos surrounding New Zealand’s future of nutrition completely resonates with our values, so we’re proud to have her on board. A large portion of the country’s children are being deprived of the opportunity to learn how to plant, grow and prepare food. These are essential skills and the chance to learn them should be available to all children. Nadia’s involvement in Dancing with the Stars will help us to go some way towards achieving this goal for New Zealand. Our schools will be rooting for Nadia, and we hope our backing will help her grab the Glitterball!”
Garden to Table hopes to raise enough funds to support more communities of higher need, so their students can learn and share these critical life-skills. When children are taught how to grow food and cook for themselves, they’re gifted a sustainable and exciting future – something every Kiwi child deserves.
After first gaining New Zealand’s attention as the winner of second series of Master Chef New Zealand, Nadia, a trained dietician, has gone on to become one of the country’s most loved personalities. Known for her ‘Nude Food’ philosophy, Nadia has successfully promoted her love for healthy, fresh eating and ethical food practices into the Kiwi consciousness. As the co-founder of leading home meal kit delivery service My Food Bag, and her namesake magazine, Nadia continues to champion her passion for healthier communities in New Zealand.
Dancing with the Stars NZ on Three will air on Sundays at 7pm and Mondays at 7.30pm from Sunday 14 April. After each week’s performance, the public will be able to vote for Nadia and Garden to Table.
Be sure to tune in and show your support for Nadia!
