An easy intro to growing with Tui mini gardens.

Kids love having a garden that’s all their own to experiment and learn the joys of getting their hands in the dirt, but not all of us have space to dedicate.

That’s why the team at Tui have created a great new low cost solution, the Kids Mini Garden, where the kids can plant straight in the bag! Even better, every bag sold supports Garden to Table.

Follow the step-by-step instructions and you'll have your own patch bursting with colourful goodness in no time. There's no need for a pot or container; plant strawberries, broccoli, lettuce and marigolds straight into in the marked spots on the bag.

You can even put a few holes in your bag at the bottom to encourage worms to the party. If your bag is directly on the earth they’ll wiggle on in in no time!

When you’ve finished growing in your bag, you can use the soil in your garden or around a fruit tree that might enjoy some extra goodness.

The bag is recyclable through the soft plastics recycling scheme, it just needs to be clean and dry. Learn how to clean and dry your Tui growing media bags here.

Some ideas of fun plants to choose for your Kids Mini Garden include:
Strawberries
Spinach
Calendula
Parsley

Don’t forget to let your little people have some input as to what they plant!

Each Tui Kids Mini Garden sold supports Garden to Table, with 50c from every bag coming directly to us to support our food education programme in schools across Aotearoa. You’ll be helping empower thousands of Kiwi kids to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh kai!

Tui would love to see what you grow – share your photos with #MyTuiMiniGarden on Facebook and Instagram. Happy gardening!

The Kids Mini Gardens are available at some garden centres, including Palmers, and at Mitre 10.
